Air Force District of Washington (AFDW), provided as a public service by AFDW Public Affairs. Headquartered at Joint Base Andrews, Md., AFDW is the Air Force component for the National Capital Region as the Air Force element under Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region Command, which was created in October 2004 in response to the events of September 11, 2001.

Air Force District of Washington falls under the command of Headquarters Air Force as a direct-reporting unit. AFDW manages Air Force resources in the National Capital Region while providing ceremonial support to HAF, the Department of Defense and the White House.
